What this pack is
This is the smallest section, and nearly half of its hazards are occupational hygiene hazards: dust and fibres from cutting insulation, isocyanates and solvents in polyurethane sealants and primers, skin sensitisers in mastics, and the repetitive handling involved in kitting thousands of bolts, nuts and washers.
It covers cutting and fitting insulation (PIR/PU panels or mineral wool), panel joint sealant and mastic application and gasket cutting, assembly of accessories such as valves, level indicators and fittings, and kitting of bolts, nuts, washers and seals. Fire in stored foam insulation is assessed under Fire and Explosion.

How one hazard is rated
Hazard F1.2 – Fire in foam insulation – starts with an inherent risk of 4B, rated before any controls are counted. The calculator lists 3 controls for it, from elimination and engineering down to PPE, monitoring and emergency arrangements. You answer Yes, No or N/A for each on the floor. Once the last one is answered, the calculator works out the control score, applies any severity reduction earned by physical controls, and shows the residual risk as RED, YELLOW or GREEN. Every control you answered No to goes into your Action Plan, most urgent and most effective first, ready for a responsible person and a due date.
